7 Disc Golf Courses in Southern California

Disc golf is a fast growing sport and is relatively easy to pick up. Southern California has many great disc golf courses, seven of which I have detailed below.

Some great things about disc golf are that it is typically free to play, you can play solo or with a group, and there is no need for a manicured lawn. The scoring and goal of the game is very similar to ‘ball golf’. Before getting started, download the UDisc app to keep score and find your way around a course.

Oak Grove Disc Golf Course

Oak Grove claims to be the first permanent disc golf course in the world. It is located in east Los Angeles, in the neighborhood La Cañada. There are views of both Angeles National Forest and JPL by Nasa.

Hole one is near the grass field and parking lot. This is a neat course with many short, technical wooded holes and a few open desert holes. Follow UDisc closely as this course can be particularly tricky to follow.

Parking: Large, free lot
Price to play: Free
Number baskets: 23
Notes: This is a disc golf specific park

Kenneth Hahn Disc Golf Course

Kenneth Hahn is a multi-use park in Culver City, Los Angeles with 360 degree views of Hollywood, Downtown LA, and the coast. In the middle of the park is a 9 hole disc golf course.

Hole one is on the east side of the park and you follow the baskets counter clockwise. This course is very open and most of the holes are longer at 300+ feet. If you aren’t able to throw 200 feet, this course may be frustrating.

Parking: $6 Saturday and Sunday, Free Monday – Friday
Price to play: Free
Number baskets: 9
Notes: Interference from picnickers, joggers, park goers

La Mirada has not one but two 18 hole disc golf courses for a total of 36. This is a beautiful park with many features including bbqs, a lake, and a water park.

The front 18 starts south of the tennis courts near the parking lot and loops around the lake. The back 18 starts north of the tennis courts and loops around the water park and baseball fields. Most of the shots are pretty open, but there are some trees and water obstacles.

Price to play: Free
Number baskets: 36
Notes: Interference from park goers, some holes are very close to the road

Kit Carson Disc Golf Course

Kit Carson is a multi-use park in Escondido in San Diego County. There is not only a disc golf course, but also a large skate park with indoor soccer fields and hockey arenas.

Hole one is near the sport complex next to the amphitheater, and the rest of the course is pretty easy to follow. This course offers a great variety of shots starting in an open field and transitioning to shorter, park holes. There is a stream that runs through the course and a shot through an orange grove.
